How is everyone doing? I thought I would share a link I found last night while searching. Remember a little while ago someone had put up the short interviews with Darby Hinton, and Mr. Ames, and Mr. Parker. Then all of a sudden they disappeared? Well I found this one after about 35 pages of searches. It is the short little interview part between Darby and Mr. Ames where he talks a little about using the whip and about how so many non Native Americans portrayed Native Americans on TV and in movies.
I found it on a foreign type website, and it had the others on it too, but this was the only one I could open. It said it was posted there by Liberation so I'm not sure why this one was the only one that would open for me. But anyway I hope you will be able to open it too.
It's part of the Darby Hinton special that is to air one of these days. Shot on Mr. Ames' ranch, you can see his horses in the backround.
Thank-you for the video. It sounds like you had to do a lot of work to find it. Well now we know. They had to put make-up on Mr. Ames. Now I am on pins and needles waiting for the show to air. I checked last week and still no sign of it for Northern NE.

Really enjoyed the video! Althought it said interview with Fess Parker..wish it could've been longer. I always heard that the 'lighter' colored actors portraying Indians were sprayed with a bronzer much like they use for tanning today. Must have been before Mr. Ames' time as an actor. Much more comfortable than cold water in the morning!

Really enjoyed the small interview that Darby Hinton had with Mr. Ames. I also read an article about his ranch and his horses. He has a favorite named 'Blondie'...I think I saw her in the background. Wish the interview could've been longer...maybe it's a teaser for the PBS special...
By the way, after viewing 'Oprah' today (she had a special on diabetes) I am almost certain that i saw Darby Hinton on a commercial for a diabetes product! I wonder if he is a diabetic and endorses diabetic awareness. Does anyone know? Reply to this
Just to say that I really want Summer NOW!!!! We have a nasty storm barreling down on us from the South and the great weather folks say that we will get about 3 feet of the lovely white stuff! And high winds to boot!! We had snow on Tues. that canceled everything and now this--plus another one coming on next Tues. We must have angered the 'snow fairies" somehow!! I have laid in my fav snacks, Dr. Pepper and plenty of yarn to knit and crochet--so let the games begin!!!!! The hubby has the plow turned around and facing out--he'll been in his glory plowing out the whole area!!!! He goes out and I man the phone lines at home for folks needing their driveways done--he loves it--------I personally prefer 90 degrees and a balmy breeze!!!!!! For those of you in this storms' path---please take care, stay in and stay warm! Wishing for Spring, Rebecca Reply to this

We're supposed to get the lovely, marshmallowy, white, fluffy stuff at some point today as well. I've heard anywhere from noon to 4 when it will all begin, starting with rain, which it hasn't done yet. I'm prepared. My car is at the 'park and ride' with a tarp over the windshield so that'll be one window I won't have to clean off when I get off the bus tonight.
The shovels and ice melt are on the front porch and I hope that my son moves his two cars around so that he can drive the older one if necessary. His Toyota Scion - no recall on that on - has a front bumper that is only inches off the ground and therefore can't make it through snow.
Well, we'll all just have to 'hunker down' with Dan and Mingo for the weekend. Hey Judy, did you send Mingo back cause I haven't seen him yet but maybe he stopped to visit one of the other ladies on his way Reply to this
I sent Mingo back late Sunday afternoon. He said that he was going to your place. Now I am worried. I wonder what has happened to him. He had his blanket and guitar with him. Has anyone seen our Mingo?
My hubbies plow is broken and in parts. So we are hoping that we don't get any more snow. Our neighbor plowed us out the other day.

Still have a lot of digging out to do. Had to dig a path out the back so doggies could go potty and had to dig out my front door as well. We're supposed to get another storm on Wednesday with additional accumulation of about 3 inches. Now that doesn't seem like a lot, but on top of 2 feet it sure is.

I am watching a show on the History Channel, called "Slave Catchers, Slave Resisters". They mentioned a Lord Dunmore, (no s) that was the Governor of Virginia in the 1700's. I was working and wasn't really paying attention until they mentioned the name. But it was around the time that the Daniel Boone show suggested. I think. I am recording the show and maybe they will say the date. I was stunned. He was all for helping the slaves get their freedom.

The last time he was visiting me I decided that I had to go grocery shopping to get more natural foods (as I was afraid that the stuff we eat would make him sick), and he was amazed at the verity of foods and how easy it was to get whatever you wanted. I had a tough time getting him out of the candy aile. Boy what a sweet tooth that man has.
Yes I agree with Barb, Mingo is sensitive to hangovers, and don't forget he doesn't handle his liquor very well either.

This is a little off topic message of where and when Mingo will be in the next few weeks, but just in case anyone reads this before 12 NOON Eastern Time today .
12 NOON Eastern Time on AMC TV channel you can catch Ed Ames singing the theme to the John Wayne movie, The War Wagon. But you must catch it right at the beginning or you'll miss it. And if you are a John Wayne fan, it's a pretty good Western movie.........would have been better had they given Mr. Ames a part in it, but what can you do.
I'm sitting here watching it snow and backing up files on my computer. I did have a scare with a virus, but I dodged the proverbial Wyandot, Shawnee, Creek arrow. A friend's husband who is laid off right now is good with computers. He took mine home, worked his magic and cleaned it all up. I was lucky and didn't lose any of my stories, poems, cards, pictures, and such.
But I learned my lesson, I did have some things saved, but not all. Today seems like a good day to do that.
Take care, Ladies, and remember 12 NOON Eastern Time, AMC, American Movie Classics.
I hope to have a new Mingo picture for you later today :o)

Well, it sure sounds like you completely re-did your home! You go girl....!!! What types of flooring did you have put in? My one friend just re-did their living room, family room and master bedroom with Pergo laminate. Her husband laid all the flooring and even did the kitchen with a new type of tile squares that you grout--it looks like ceramic. Very pretty. I am envious of your improvements and hers too! I am married to the "grinch' and probably won't ever see any new floors in my lifetime!! We have an ugly gray carpet downstairs that has been here for at least 21 years-----aaarrgggh!!!!!! I need it to go NOW!!!!! Can you paint carpet????????????????????????? He has even spilled ink on it and cut and patched those areas---Bless his heart@@#@#! I tell him, that if I out- live him, things will get done---a bath downstairs, new steps and floors!! Enjoy your pretty new house my friend. With Envy, Rebecca Reply to this
Sounds more like your husband is Scrooge. LOL I am sure that your friend already knows this, but she needs to be careful with her new floors, even the kitchen one that they don't get to wet. They are great products, but hate to much moisture. Same goes for you Kerry. They also have to be washed with special products as well. Depending on the manufacture of the kitchen flooring she might be able to use the same cleaner on her laminate floors too.
By the way, no you can't paint carpeting, though we have tried. Just kidding. We renovate houses for a living, so my house is in constant remodeling faze (we buy a house, move in, remodel, sell, and buy another to work on, so I never have a clean house.)

You mean that 'cutting out portions of the carpet' isn't the right thing to do! LOL...I agree with you....there's just something 'wrong' there!
I too am happy for anyone who is able to get new things for their home. It just makes you feel good, for a while at any rate.
We re-did the back room (old back porch we framed in and vinyl sided) by putting in windows, down flooring, carpeting with a tile entrance. We have french doors going out to the 'side' patio which wraps around to the 'back' patio. We just had an aluminum awning put out over the back porch this past year. The patio's are 2x2 concrete slabs. My livingroom/diningroom carpet needs replaced - its about 13 - 15 years old....ground in dirt, dog pee(gross, but yes I do steam clean it!)....I need a new kitchen as it is from the 1950's and my very small (5 x 7) bathroom needs an 'uplift' (pink tub/toilet). We have done a ton of renovation over the past 23.5 years...dry-walled every room in the house and even the ceilings. And I still need new stairs going down to the gameroom and a new floor down there as well. We've done lots of other stuff too, but no need to list that! Reply to this
Sounds like y'all did the whole house too! Yeah, "Scrooge" fits a bit better. But I did get him to allow me to re-do the hall bath last Nov. It was a couple month struggle to win the battle over a new cabinet--my choice!! He whined that it is his bath and he didn't want anything 'fancy'. MEN! If you left it up to them, everything would be beige, cheap, and tacky!! I didn't win the floor battle though---and this cabinet is smaller, so the old floor underneath is lighter than the rest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He said it didn't matter----I wanted to smack him!!! We're only talking 26 tiles--- a small room! So, I told him when people asked why it is like that--I will send them to him for an explanation(if there is such a thing!@!!!) I do paint all the house--inside and out---he doesn't fuss too much about a few gallons of paint. Just don't ask for anything big! I am watching our son and daughter-in-law decorate their new home---and drooling!!! Oh well, our house is pretty, just could use some new floors--guess I shouldn't whine too much. My one trick though, that my neighbor taught me, is to make a list of everything---the date it was bought and how much----then keep this taped inside the kitchen cupboard!! She puts hers' onto the item(under chairs and tables, etc.) When the scrooge starts fussing that the item is still usable, I just calmly state the facts!!!! A few times, it has gotten his attention!!! For example, our living room furniture was bought in 1989---and so forth!!!! Hey, you do what you must!!!!!!!! A Frustrated Decorator, Rebecca
P.S. So, Barb, if you need anything painted--just holler! Reply to this
Our last house one bathroom took 5 years to remodle from start to almost finish. It still needs a few touch ups (but the tenants don't seem to mind). It was missing two walls and a door for 3 years. I could see down the stairwell during that time.
I watched an episode of CSI (Las Vegas), and it has Veronica Cartwright in it. The episode title is "Pushamama". And she plays and evil mother-in-law who is murdered at the wedding. Thought you might want to keep it in mind for future reference.

Hi All,
How is everyone doing?
Here is the link,

Hello all...

Hi Ladies,
Just to say that I really want Summer NOW!!!!
Wishing for Spring,

Hey Judy, did you send Mingo back cause I haven't seen him yet but maybe he stopped to visit one of the other ladies on his way

We've got 2 feet of snow here in Monroeville. We did finally get our street plowed, but very few are venturing out. PA is under a state of emergency. My son still has to go to work to determine if they are able to open. The power is out at the store, so I don't quite get it that it might have to open. Well, things are just weird sometimes.
Well, those of you who are 'snow-bound' curl up with a good book, a hot cup of tea or a good video and wait this monster out. I'm getting ready to head back out to shovel.

Bill has plowed all the neighbors driveways--not that they are going anywhere! Everything is closed in the whole state I think!!!! And yes, we are to get more on Tues. also--yea!!
I shall curl up and crochet to some Ames Brothers music. Stay warm and safe my friend.

Wisconsin hasn't had snow for awhile but since it has been so darn cold we have plenty still left on the ground. I hear some more snow is on the way. Tonight I went to see Avatar which I thought was fantastic. I think there is a correlation between the natives in the movie with our American Indians and how appropriate that Wes Studi played the part of the tribal head. A futuristic Daniel Booneish story I think.

Good Afternoon Ladies,
I am watching a show on the History Channel, called "Slave Catchers, Slave Resisters".
If you are interested, I will let you know more.
Take Care,
Judy

Lord Dunmore was the governor of Virginia at the time of the Revolution. Teaching in Virginia I know he is studied in fifth grade. Dunmore wanted soldiers and he began a deal that if Virginia slaves joined the British Army they would be given their freedom. Many did just that and after the war was over they left for Canada with their families just like other Loyalists. There are communities to this day in eastern Canada whose citizens are descendants of those Black Loyalists.

Well, here it is Friday again....And IT'S SNOWING! Boo, Hiss, I'm tired of this! We're supposed to get another inch today and then come Monday we're going to be looking at a possible additional 3 inches. When Will It EVER END?
I'm going to be spending my weekend trying to knock snow and icicles off of my gutters, shoveling more of this stuff out of my driveway and hoping that Verizon shows up to hook up my Fios so I can get my home computer back up and running. I'm going to call them this morning to confirm for tomorrow.
So, in the meantime I have busied myself cleaning my house. Something that I hate to do. I would much rather go outside and play in the dirt, digging up and replanting plants than running a sweeper or doing dishes. Well, if I ever get rich (huh, right!) I'll hire someone to do that stuff (indoors) for me.

Well today we celebrate Abraham Lincoln's 201's birthday. AND my grandmother's 107th Birthday! (had she lived LOL). She always used to tell me that Abe Lincoln was born on HER Birthday. So, I sent an e-mail out to my siblings and cousins telling them that grandma was having a birthday party today, celebrating with her parents, sisters and brother (who was stillborn - and that's ANOTHER story!),and 3 husbands - she outlived 2 of them; Bing Crosby will be singing her and Abe 'Happy Birthday.' Bob Hope will be entertaining along with Jerry Colonna, George Burns, Gracie Allen and a host of others. Abe will be sitting next to Grandma waiting for his slice of cake. I'm sure they're all gonna have a 'terrific' time!

I have heard that Mr. Ames practiced the throw many times that afternoon, to make sure he was in the right place when he did it in front of the camera and audience. He hit the target every time in the heart. When he hit the figure in the leg, well his reaction is priceless. He was so shocked and embarrassed (at least that is the way it seemed to me.)

the leg? well, um anyway, yep, that's the way I've heard him tell it! And I believe it. I was just pointing out there are still skeptics out there. But yeah, I think surprise and embarrasement showed in his body language, though he does deny being embarrassed.
in another interview he talks about it being taped (with tape) by the prop man AFTER he practiced etc.

Hi Keats,
When the camera changes the angle you can see that the hatchet is actually in the inside upper thigh. Just barely but none the less in the thigh. A 1/4 in over to the right and it would have hit you know where.

For those of you who love history, the Nations' spiral downward continues. Some of our National Historic sites are going to be closed.
http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/02/closings_loom_for_new_york_sta.html
Don't think it's going to be just New York either. Coming to a theater near you. Our world is changing rapidly. Due to new legislation, including HR 848, your local radio stations will probably start closing and within two years most of your local TV news will be pulled for lack of funds. I know a lot of people don't know this, so I thought I would share. Better have all your Ed Ames on cd.

okay, that article is mysteriously missing. Here is another one. We used to sign our yearbooks "Yours until Niagara Falls"...kinda has new meaning now.

this one article doesn't mention it. But this will also include closure of our Forts, including Ontario, Ticonderoga, and many others.
Reply to this
Now they are reporting that ALL Historic sites in our region are on list for closure, along with other sites I hold dear, like Verona Beach, my tranquil spot I've gone too since childhood. This is very upsetting. Soon, I suppose, toilet paper and dogs will be illegal, or something weird. It's some new horrifying change every day nationally or locally. For many of us, it's an extra burden to have things that we've cherished all of our lives (and parents lives) just "close." Good God. I suppose even closing Niagara Falls wouldn't wake people up.

Well, Mingo came back! Yep, he showed up the other day....cold and lonely from the long walk from Florida. I made sure I had a heated bath for him and then when he was all nice and snuggly in warm jammies with his nice clean blanket wrapped around his shoulders, I gave him a hot toddy and we watched a few episodes of DB together.
I did ask him a question that I think we all would ask. Has he read any of the stories that have been written. He told me 'yes' he had and enjoyed each and every one of them. He also said to 'keep writing' as there are a lot of talented folks out there.
See, he DOES think of us! Love You Mingo!

Hi Barb,
I am glad that Mingo is safe and warm in you arms. Could you ask him if he would like to come up to Maine for St. Patrick's Day? I promise not to get him drunk! Oh, and make sure he brings his blanket just in case we need it. LOL
Did he forget his guitar down to Kerry's? I hope not.
Take Care you two,
Judy

Unfortunately, Mingo DID forgot his guitar at Kerry's! Although I am sure she is happy that she has something 'personal' of his!
I do have, however, an old guitar that someone left in my attic many years ago. Mingo has been busy re-stringing it with cat-gut and toning it up. I have the pleasure of listening to his wonderful voice in the evenings while he 'tunes' the guitar.
St. Patty's day where you are? Well, I will certainly be sure to ask him if he wants to go! He's the kind of man who likes to experience many different things, so I am imagining that his answer will be 'yes'.!!!!

Mingo’s Harem
Mingo has a harem
It wasn’t all his choice
The ladies swarmed around him
Enchanted by his voice.
He has a cultured accent
A softening of the “r’s”
His face is lit with happiness
His eyes are bright as stars.
His arms are long and sculptured
Bared by his beaded vest
The neckline plunges daringly
To show his furry chest.
The ladies dreamed of being
Enfolded and embraced
They longed to lean for hours
Disavowing any haste.
Each night their fancy blossomed
To be the lady fair
Whose fingers gently twining
Wove through black and curly hair.
To lie against his body
And listen to his sighs
To share the secrets of his heart
What more could they devise?
Paramour in a blanket
But paladin in his soul
Combines to make a living man
The target and the goal.
Ah Mingo, I am jealous
I cannot tell you lies
I want to be the chosen one
To look into your eyes.
You are a man of many gifts
And share you, yes, I must
Yet know that I’ll be loving you
Until the earth is dust.

Well, it's 36 degrees here in Pgh. Know what that means? IT'S T-SHIRT WEATHER! Yep, here in the 'burgh' anything above freezing you'll see people outside without a coat! So I did. Went out and shoveled more of that disgusting white stuff. I found my garbage cans! Wahoo! Now I can put the bags that have been accumulating on my front porch (I know that sounds nasty, but I couldn't find the cans!) in the garbage cans for pick up this week! Wahoodle!
Kerry, whose putting in your floor? Is it a kitchen floor? I don't think Mingo has ever done anything like that, but knowing him, he's always ready to try something new, albeit not very exciting!

Just thought that I would let you both know that Mingo wanted to stretch his legs a bit and do a little exploring. He saw the pictures that Cynthia and I posted on MW and decided to head West. After observing you both use your computers, he figured out how to log on and check out the Mingowomen. com site.
So Mingo is headed to Arizona first to help Cynthia celebrate her birthday since I will not be there. I am going back to Arizona in June when she starts her summer vacation. Cynthia and Mingo will get an early start on celebrating St. Patrick's day by having a couple of ales at the Irish Pub in Prescott. After which, Cynthia will send Mingo, north to Seattle, so he can help me celebrate my Irish heritage at a great Irish Pub that serves some fantastic micro-brew ales. He will head back east after he recovers from celebrating.

Well, don't get him drunk! He doesn't handle a hangover very well! I'll be looking for him after all the celebrating is done. Have fun.

Hi Suzy & Cynthia,
I am glad to see that Mingo is going to see the rest of the country. And visit a couple of the other ladies that admire him so.
I would like to extend an early Happy Birthday wish to Cynthia. I am assuming that you are going to take a break from writing while Mingo is in Arizona. By the way it would be nice to know what Mingo thinks of your stories.
Take Care, and have FUN!

Tidewater Virginia would be a great spot for Mingo to spend the latter part of March. I live about 20 miles from Colonial Williamsburg and I'm sure he would enjoy revisiting some familiar places. He eve might run into some familiar faces.

Oh dear! Our secret is out! We didn't want to tell anyone, but Mingo has already contacted Susie, Carly and me and agreed to meet us in Williamsburg during the Williamsburg Film Festival March 10-13. He says he's gonna give us a personal tour of Papa Dunsmore's house and show us all his favorite places! He's also going to show us how to load the Williamsburg Cannon. That would allow him to be with you, Pam, during the latter part of March.
Rumor also has it that Henry Darrow is going to make an appearance at the festival! Hugs, Paula

The 17th is St. Patrick's Day and we have some celebrating to do. Have a big party planned. A friend is making a Killer Irish Stew and a surprise dessert for him.
Maybe the Suquamish Indians, just on the other side of the bridge to the west side of Puget Sound have some spirit gods that Mingo could use on Thursday morning to get back as early as possible.

Hi Ladies,
This is a little off topic message of where and when Mingo will be in the next few weeks, but just in case anyone reads this before 12 NOON Eastern Time today .
Susie in snowy Erie, PA.

Hi Kerry,
Well, it sure sounds like you completely re-did your home!
With Envy,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,
Sounds more like your husband is Scrooge.

Hi Barb,Kerry and Judy,
Sounds like y'all did the whole house too!
A Frustrated Decorator,
Rebecca
P.S. So, Barb, if you need anything painted--just holler!

Our last house one bathroom took 5 years to remodle from start to almost finish. It still needs a few touch ups (but the tenants don't seem to mind).
It was missing two walls and a door for 3 years. I could see down the stairwell during that time.

I just listened to it again. What a fabulous voice Connie Stevens has! My favorite movie from the 1960's is 'Where The Boys Are'. Just another one of the 'beach blanket' movies, but with a ton of stars - George Hamilton, Connie Stevens, Frankie Gorshin, et al. Haven't seen it in a long time, but I really like it. Dolores (I can't remember her last name, but played along side of George Hamilton in the movie) became a nun, and eventually a Mother Superior. Good for her for following her dream.
