Reflection

This is a different kind of story than my usual. It came to me unexpectedly one morning  for some unknown reason. There is some violence, but it happens "off-story". Reflection

Hunter voiced my thoughts almost verbatim ... it is a riveting story with such an evil villan! I like the way you portrayed Mingo in that the words you chose for him to speak were very much in character with the DB show.

Thanks so much for writing "Reflection"!

I just e-mailed you both the Word version and a PDF version of "Reflection". If you can't open either of those files, well, I guess you will just have to telephone me and I will read the story to you over the phone!

      Take care,

Hi Cynthia. I read this soon after it came out but am just getting to a response. I really enjoyed this story. Mingo's integrity so often seem to attract this form of response. Small people can be so uncomfortable with truly noble personalities. I also have a question. Have I missed something from the shows? I don't remember a reference to the name Edmund Kerr Murray. Just curious and wondering what special meaning it may have it you created it.

      Dear Mary,
Years ago Marla Fair introduced the name "Kerr" as Mingo's British name, a play upon his Cherokee name "Caramingo". I felt uncomfortable using Marla's name for the character, so I added Mr. Ames' first name for the same character in my stories. So, Edmund Kerr Murray is my fabrication and has nothing to do with the DB series writers. The Murray part is historical. The Earl of Dunmore, not Dunsmore, was John Murray. To the best of my knowledge Mingo's English name is never mentioned. Anyone else remember?

    Hi Cynthia,

I was going through the archives to look at pictures and realized I hadn't read this story.

I liked it a lot. It was interesting to see how Mingo dealt with the memories. It sounded as though Curtis, took the same classes a Kerr just to see if he could beat him. Why did Curtis think that he could defame Lord Dunsmore? I imagine that it was well know that Mingo was his son and it obviously didn't bother the King or else the King wouldn't have made Lord Dunsmore the governor. Curtis would have looked like a fool if he had tried.

So the voices in Curtis' head made him try to kill Kerr? I counted four attempts, if you count the horse throwing him twice.

What a sick puppy Curtis was.

As I have said before and will most likely say again. (With other and future stories). This would have made a good episode.

    Take Care,
    Judy

      Dear Judy,

Yes, Curtis' behavior could be blamed on "the voices". Over the years I've read of commanders who were waaaaaacky. I thought I would like to try and create one of my own. It was really rather easy. I think many people feel such intense jealousy that they harm others. It doesn't have to be rational. In fact, often I think it is irrational. Thank you for your comments. You evidently read the story very carefully.

        May I call you Cindy?

You most certainly did a marvelous job at making Curtis waaaaacky.

          Dear Judy,

Yes, please call me Cindy. The only reason I'm listed as Cynthia is to keep me and Cindy Brickley separate. Since Cindy B. seldom comments anymore, Suzy and I thought that I could ease myself in as Cindy. All my friends and family call me Cindy. I'm only Cynthia for formal purposes, like tax returns!

            Good Evening Cindy,

I have a question that I would like to ask you. I have an idea for a story that is a continuance of Not In Our Stars, (I think that is the name of the episode, with Walter Pigeon.) I was wondering if I could use Edmund Kerr Murray? My heroin and Mingo haven't seen each other in oh I don't know about 12 to 15 years. So she doesn't know him as Mingo. Also if I could use John Murray too. Let me know. Thanks,

            Take Care, Judy

              Dear Judy,

I borrowed the "Kerr" from Marla on the DB site years ago, with her permission. I added the Edmund to give myself some distance and so I could play around with various perceptions. Of course you may use the names. I am pleased that you wish to.

              Cindy
